Project Management at ABS

Our Approach As Project Managers we aim to:

Understand and define our client's needs
Create a plan for fulfilling those needs
Manage the implementation of the plan

Working with our client we identify parameters of

Quality (in the broadest sense of the term)
Cost & value
Time

For us, project management is a continuous function. It aims to deliver what our client needs, when they need it and at the cost upon which he decided to proceed. Our approach is underwritten by our experience and understanding of operational buildings in use.

Project Structure Procurement Route - The scope and terms of who is appointed, when and how are decisions crucial to the success of the project. Structure and procurement routes must be considered early and become part of the agreed brief. ABS has the experience and skill to assess, report and recommend on options, advising on the cost, programme, risk, safety and other factors involved.

The Brief - The brief is the foundation of a sound project. For us, brief definition is a self-contained activity with a Statement of Client's Requirements as a deliverable end-product.

Taking a brief does not mean asking the client what they want, when and for how much, and writing the answers down! An experienced client may know exactly what they want; others may need advice. For ABS's clients, careful consideration of stated needs, using our skills as project managers and designers, results in a brief which forms the basis for a successful project.

Cost & Value Management - ABS cost management philosophy is - no surprises. From initial budgets onwards, we aim for the best possible estimate of predictable costs and for a carefully defined allowance for risk items.

Cost management of the design development phase keeps costs within budget but also, through the process of value engineering, can improve design itself. At procurement stage, we document and report, so that our client has the necessary data to make or to confirm decisions.

Programme ; Progress - Programmes, in appropriate levels of detail, provide data for planning and monitoring progress. ABS uses up to date computer software as a management tool. The tools are not an end in themselves; they enable the project manager to achieve their client's objectives.
